Everything You Need to Know About

Saucers Over Appalachia Festival

The history of UFO sightings and encounters in the Appalachian region stretches back for many decades and probably much further than recorded historical documents suggest. Cases in Bristol, VA/TN, and the surrounding area can be found throughout the Project Blue Book files.

In 1973, one of the largest UFO waves in history swept over the nation. In the autumn of that year, local newspapers were suddenly flooded with reports of unidentified craft and close encounters throughout Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee. These cases and the events leading up to the Great UFO Wave of 1973 are documented in the 2016 book Saucers Over Appalachia by local author and historian William Van Huss.

Join us on Saturday, June 14, in downtown Bristol, Virginia, for Saucers Over Appalachia Festival, a free event celebrating varied aspects of one of the strangest mysteries of our planet. The festival is free to the public and sure to be fun and informative for people of all ages.

Explore the history of the UFO enigma in our region and learn about the current state of the phenomenon with speakers Susan Swiatek (director of MUFON Virginia), Ron Lanham & Joe Perdue (field researchers and investigators), and author, William Van Huss at the Bristol Public Library.

Nearby Cumberland Square Park will come alive with an all-day outdoor cosmic extravaganza featuring dozens of artists, authors, and other unique paranormal creators in our vendor mall, as well as live music and a delicious selection of food trucks.
